The American Board Publications series added to the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) Archive includes Armenian and Armeno-Turkish editions of the newspaper Avedaper [The Messenger], as well as books, booklets, and pamphlets in Armenian, Armeno-Turkish, Ottoman Turkish, Greek, and Karamanlidika (Greco-Turkish). Produced, published, and distributed by the ABCFM’s publishing house in Istanbul between 1857 and 1933, these materials provide insight into the ABCFM’s educational and cultural approach and are vital records of Ottoman Protestant communities, of which few written traces remain. The cataloging and digitization of these rare publications have been supported by the British Library as part of the “Endangered Archives Programme” to ensure their preservation and accessibility for researchers. The project was carried out in partnership with Salt and American Research Institute in Turkey (ARIT).
