In order to protect them, one officer leading 10 policemen had been sent to Rethymno gendarmerie in order to protect the Ottoman quarter; Captain Nik. Kouvakis had been sent from Iraklion to Rethymno.
Note
The citizens had been ordered to find rooms for all the families which had been persecuted in their houses. Kingdom of Greece.
