Title
Dyak people - Dyak insanları
Description
The national drink is a rice-beer known as tuak. Early morning on the veranda of a Dyak long-house. A girl drummer in a Sea Dyak orchestra. Dyak children are greatly beloved, though their upbringing is very different from that of Western children. Varios herbal remedies for sickness are known but ill-health is closely bound up with primitive fears and superstitions, and most of treatment given by witch-doctors or manangs consists of the exorcism of evilly disposed spirits which are held to have entered the body of the sick person. Living as they do, each group in its own river system, lacking roads and almost entirely dependent on canoes for travel, the Dyaks are inecitably isolated from contact with their fellows. There are few roads in Sarawak. The kindly, strong-minded wife of headman in the Kanowit discrit.
