Öktem and Barutçuoğlu
This collection comprises photographs related to the professional work of Lâtif Öktem (1894-1985), who served as a teacher, inspector, and director of education at Maarif Vekâleti (Ministry of Education), as well as the work of his sister, Bahriye Öktem, who served as the principal of Moda Elementary School. It features images of schools inspected by Lâtif Öktem in the 1920s across Diyarbakır, Mardin, Balıkesir, Istanbul, Kırklareli, and Çanakkale; excursions with school principals, teachers, and students; Republic Day celebrations; and photographs of family members who migrated from Crimea to Romania and Istanbul, alongside Bahriye Öktem’s photographs with teachers and students at Moda Elementary School. In addition, the album compiled by Haluk Barutçuoğlu, husband of Tınçay Öktem (daughter of Lâtif and Kadriye Öktem), documents the ceremonies marking Hatay’s annexation to Türkiye, as well as schools in and around Antakya during the 1930s.
