Hanesi işi ile meşgul Gür Abdullah oğlu Ali Ağa, İbn-i Muhsin'in oğludur. 1282 senesinde Lazistan'a tabi Rize Kavaruz Mahallesi'nde tevellüd etmiştir. Rize Sıbyan Mektebi'nde okuduktan sonra Nahve kadar ders görmüş, 1286 senesinde Dersaadet'e gelip Bahr-ı Siyah Çiftebaş Kurşunlu Medresesi'ne bi'l-kayd onüç sene ilm-i fıkıh ilm-i meâni b. okumuşsa da icâzetnâme almaya muvaffak olmamıştır. Hacı Abdülkerimzâde şöhretiyle müteâriftir. 1296'da Mardin'de tevellüd etmiştir. Mardin İbtidâîsi'nde ve badehu Gerila Rüşdiyesi'nde fünûn-i lâzimeyi öğrenerek 1315 senesinde şehâdetnâme almış ve oranın Hamidiye Medresesi'nde birkaç sene çalışmış ve bi'l-ahira Bağdat Dârülmuallimîn'e kabul olunup 1321 tarihinde şehâdetnâme almıştır.
