The archive includes documents on the life, investments, and connections of the Whittalls in Turkey. Charlton Whitall (1791-1867), a young man, who came to work in İzmir from Worcester, Great Britain in 1809, formed his own company, and settled in Bornova. These records on his life, and that of his descendents, illustrate the history of the Levantines in the Ottoman Empire and Turkey.
