dc.note | Correspondence about William Chambers's travel plans (1911 August 31 and September 2) mention quarantine as a 'vanishing matter.' Lawson P. Chambers refers to a paper in Geneva quoting 800 cases of cholera (1911 August 9). A message from the American Consular Service stating according to the agreement between the Sublıme Porte and the American Embessy the missionaries must pay taxes on properties (Tarsus). T.D. Christie and the Board are doubtful (July 26/7). Letter from Robert Chambers concerning beating as a disciplinary measure in schools - permissible under American law but not Turkish (1911 Jan 6). In another letter he suggests the use of regular examinations for both government and non-government schools (Bahçecik, 1911 Jan 4 and Adana March 22). After falling ill, Thomas D. Christie leaves his station to be treated in another town. Eventually he is recommended desert air. From the Anglo-American Hospital (Cairo, 1911 May 9), he notes the standards of living. Letters from Tarsus and Kasab often refer to the "massacre." | - |
