Note
In a correspondence to William Peet, T. F. Barker (Hadjin, 1910 Jul 26) notes the government took some of the missionaries' horses while they were absent for taxation reasons. A telegram from Barker (1910 Jul 30) names those who took the horses, after they were ordered to return them. James Barton (ABCFM, 1910 Aug 9) expresses anxiety over Erickson and the Elbasan station because of the construction of the school without seeking consultation with board. Due to depletion of funds, Erickson wants to return to United States to raise more, the board rejects this through several letters and telegrams. A copy of Erıckson's letter attached mentions sheriat law that allows the property sold to be bought back by the sellers within a five-year period. ABCFM (1910 Nov 4) states the "foolishness" of the Young Turk Party when they alienated Albanian allies. Barton (ABCFM 1910 Dec 5) mentions the assault made on Mr. Erickson at Monastir on Oct 20 and to seek just and proper treatment. Barton (ABCFM, 1911, Jan 2) waits on Samokov for the proposed bill about "subject oustide religious bodies in Bulgaria," thinks that the country was taking a "backward step." Ends the correspondence stating the board has now paid one million dollars on the Two Million Dollar Endowment Fund for Higher Educational Work of the American Board. It also includes "Memorandum with Reference to the Contemplated All-Turkey Conference in the Summer of 1912" (ABCFM, 1911 Jan 18)
