Seyr-i Sefain Administration
In the Ottoman Empire, maritime lines were managed under numerous names such as İrade-i Şahane, İdare-i Aziziye and İdare-i Mahsusa. The administration for seafaring was called Osmanlı Seyr-i Sefain İdaresi [Ottoman Maritime Administration] in 1910, and changed its name to Türkiye Seyr-i Sefain in 1925. The institution went through further periods of restructuring, and was renamed numerous times during the Republic, operating under State Seaways, Maritime Authority and Maritime Management Inc.. The archive is composed of documents related to the institution’s activities carried out during the first half of the 20th century.
